Remembering Neil

Here are excerpts of things Neil’s friends said about him on face book

João Nuno

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist. Neil has lived and has touched everyone around him with a smile. Lets not cry because it’s over, lets smile because it happened.

My Friend Neil
It’s so difficult to write about Neil because he is not easily defined. He raced thru everything but always slowed down to learn and appreciate everything. He incorporated everything and woke up everyday determined to make it new but never forget the lessons he learned from the day before. He was light years ahead in maturity but still remained a Peter Pan who didn’t want to grow up. He ran in zig zags and circles but walked a more consistent and straight path than anyone I have ever known.

Neil was not one to settle for anything else than happiness, and that is the lesson I take from him. He was a real inspiration and an amazing friend. My deepest, deepest condolences to all of his family, he left us way too soon.

I cannot believe that such a wonderful person has ceased to exist in this world. You are unforgettable even to those who have met you only once…and we will all miss you very much. You were one of the most beautiful people I have come to meet in my life, both inside and out. I will miss you always.

Neil was always urging everyone around him to be the best version of themselves.  His smile, constant positive nature, and enthusiasm for life was always contagious.  He moved to India in July to be around family, do yoga, meditate, and even hoped to write a book (something he’d always told me he wanted to d).  As much as it pains me to think about how he will never be able to finish what he started, I take solace in the fact that he was the type of individual who always lived life to the fullest.

When I remember Neil, I always see his huge White smile and his endless reserves of energy. He just did everything to the max, and did it to the nth degree of his abilities. I was actually a bit jealous of his multitude of achievements, (which he never bragged about!). I’ll never forget that energy though. He was such a force of nature that he whipped you up like a tornado. He was good through and through, and he danced like a maniac…!

A Hopi Prayer by Mary E Frye:Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet white doves in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

You can learn a lot about people by their yoga practice, and Neil was so clearly a truly joyful and passionate person. I will miss his unbelievable smile, his amazing focus, his spontaneous sweetness and generosity of spirit, and his powerful and aligned warrior 2.

” And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” Abraham Lincoln

“The tragedy of life is not death but what we let die inside of us while we were alive”.

“I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be”

“nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think” benjamin disraeli

“For me, it’s really easy to be kind to others when I remember that none of us came into this world with a manual about how to get it all right. We are ultimately a product of our biology and environment. Consequently, I choose to be compassionate with others when I consider how much painful emotional baggage we are biologically programmed to carry about. I recognize that mistakes will be made, but this does not mean that I need to either victimize myself or take your actions and mistakes personally. Your stuff is your stuff and my stuff is my stuff. Feeling deep inner peace and sharing kindness is always a choice for either of us. Forgiving others and forgiving myself is always a choice. Seeing this moment as a perfect moment is always a choice”. -My Stroke of Insight

“when you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all of your thoughts break their bonds: your mind transcends limitations, your conciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, wonderful world. dormant forces, facilities and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be”. patanjali
